Julian Miltenberger
Julian Miltenberger is a drummer and composer from Philadelphia, currently attending the Harvard/Berklee dual degree program in Boston. With roots in Philadelphia's swing, R&B, and avant-garde music traditions, Julian seeks to explore broader musical lineages throughout the Atlantic world with his work. At Harvard, Julian has deeply studied the relationship between folkloric Afro-Cuban drumming traditions and creative music in the USA under the guidance of his mentor Yosvany Terry. At Berklee, Julian’s teachers have included Ralph Peterson Jr., Neal Smith, and Francisco Mela; he has also been a member of Terri Lyne Carrington’s Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice for two years. As a musical sideman, Julian has performed in venues ranging from the Jazz Gallery in New York City to Duc Des Lombards in Paris, France. Julian plans to pursue a master’s degree at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute starting this fall.
