Kobi Abcede
Drummer and producer Kobi “Trenchfoot” Abcede, a.k.a !KOBI, brings propulsive rhythmic prowess and a jazz-tinged harmonic palette to any musical context from LA to New York. Combining futuristic synth loops with fiery live drums, he creates soundscapes that reveal his deep knowledge of jazz harmony and its ever-continuing history. Having honed his skills as a first-call jazz drummer and a member of the creative music collective Momentum, !KOBI became an in-demand collaborator for artists across the five boroughs, including Queens-based soul singer Duendita and pianist/rapper DAP the Contract.
!KOBI continued to hone his skills playing with the hip-hop collective Honeytrap every week in the Lower East Side for a crowd of artists and clubbers alike. Based in NYC currently, !KOBI has caught the attention of the city’s music scene with his ability to not only swing relentlessly but also lay down a groove that will upturn the nostrils of the most seasoned hip-hop audiences. Mentored by jazz greats like Lenny White and Billy Drummond, !KOBI has fortified his playing with a deep knowledge of the music’s history. Whether playing with a jazz quartet or a rapper, he channels that history to elevate the music with rhythmic sophistication that verges on futuristic.
