Madeline Hocking
Praised as “exceptional” and “enchanting” by New York Concert Review, performer, composer, and artistic director Madeline Hocking is a dynamic artist emerging within New York’s contemporary music scene. Her work centers on deeply collaborative and experimental approaches to creation, through chamber music, working with composers on world premieres of repertoire, and interdisciplinary performances that intertwine new music with visual art and choreography. Madeline’s recent roles have spanned a multi-year position as co-founder and co-artistic director of award-winning New York-based collective ‘Noise Catalogue’, being a founding member of the sextet ‘Sixth Degree’, and co-hosting an interactive concert series with Trevor New as a performer and administrator at En.J.Inn Arts. She is also a performer, composer, and administrator at COPE Collective, and a violinist with acclaimed New York based groups such as Infrasound and New Chamber Ballet.
As a violin soloist, Madeline has appeared with ensembles including American Composers Orchestra, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, Vancouver Philharmonic, Strathcona Symphony Orchestra, and Comox Music Centre Orchestra, as well as at IRCAM Forum. Other recent highlights have included appearing as a soloist at a private concert for James Ehnes and the New York Consulate General of Canada, performing for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and being featured on the New York Philharmonic’s Nightcap series. Madeline has won numerous awards in violin, piano, and chamber music across the U.S. and Canada, and performed at venues and festivals such as Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, National Sawdust, the Banff Centre, and the Bang on a Can Marathon. As a composer, her works have been performed throughout the US, Canada, and Hungary.
