Summer Solstice 2025
On June 20, 2025, Metropolis Ensemble presented thousands of visitors with two world premieres in our Biophony series at Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Matthew Evan Taylor’s Afropneuma at sunrise and Erik Hall’s reimagining of Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians at sunset—two powerful works inspired by breath and transformation. Biophony Pop-Up Series
Since 2021, our diverse independent artists in the Metropolis community have collaborated to create an annual series of free, accessible, site-specific, and “pandemic proof” concerts at open streets, pedestrian plazas, and public parks, favoring neighborhoods that are rarely offered new music. Artists use a self-organizing digital platform and present flexible musical works for any combination of instruments at a variety of scales. More Info »

Face the Music 2023
On May 6, 2023, dozens of visitors enjoyed a riverside performance featuring students from Kaufman Music Center’s “Face the Music” teen new music program in collaboration with Metropolis artists, as part of Riverside Park Conservancy’s 2023 “Summer on the Hudson” arts festival in partnership with NYC Parks Department.
