Murphy Aucamp
A native of South Florida, percussionist Murphy Aucamp began playing drums at the age of 6 and later congas after discovering his passion for Cuban music. Murphy studied classical percussion at Dreyfoos School of the Arts in West Palm Beach, while simultaneously studying rumba in the streets of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. He is a graduate of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where he studied under Steve Rucker, Dafnis Prieto, and John Yarling.
Murphy’s performing credits include appearances with Gloria Estefan, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Blue Man Group, Arturo O’Farrill, Quincy Jones, Daymé Arocena, Jon Secada, Néstor Torres, Orlando “Maraca” Valle, Nu Deco Ensemble, Palm Beach Symphony, Symphony of the Americas, and as a soloist with the Amarillo Symphony. He has toured internationally with trumpeter Brian Lynch’s “Spheres of Influence” band, and contributed arrangements and percussion on two Grammy-winning albums: “The Omni-American Book Club” - Brian Lynch Big Band, and “American Dreamers” - John Daversa Big Band. Murphy was also previously a finalist in both the New World Symphony Concerto Competition and the Blue Man Group Drum-Off.
