Cellist Sahara von Hattenberger is recognized for her versatile artistry, championing offensively tonal contemporary music. A member of the Chamber Orchestra of New York and co-founder of the voice-and-cello ensemble Duo Étrange, she has premiered and commissioned numerous new works by emerging and established composers. Her recordings include the critically acclaimed solo album 1Q84 and Duo Étrange's debut release I Wish I Were Dead on ATMA Classique. Sahara has received support from the Canada Council for the Arts and New Music USA. Upcoming projects include commissioning Greg Spears for a new opera directed by Marcus Shields with singer Vanessa Croome, and participating as ensemble in residence at Composers Conference this year at Avaloch Institute.
