Theo Espy
Early exposure to Byrd, Babbitt, and Jefferson Airplane instilled in violinist Theo Espy a sonic omnivorousness that he channels into his work as a chamber musician and proponent of the music of our time. During his six-year tenure as violinist of Spektral Quartet, Theo co-programmed and co-produced more than fifty original concerts, performed in four planetarium dome theaters, earned three GRAMMY nominations, survived two renditions of Feldman’s six-hour String Quartet, and completed one duet with a rubber chicken. Off the classical stage, Theo is one half of a NYC-based electronica duo. He is a fierce advocate for the transgender community, serving as Board President of Identity Affirmation Workshop, currently the only nonprofit organization in the United States solely dedicated to providing pro bono legal services for name and gender-marker changes.
