Yuma Uesaka
Yuma Uesaka (b.1991) is a Japanese-American saxophonist, clarinetist, improviser, and composer based in New York City since 2014. By way of London, Nagoya, and Detroit, his music spans jazz, creative improvised music, and new music, exploring the physicality of performance and blurring boundaries between acoustic/electronic, composed/improvised, and music/noise. Uesaka has released Streams with pianist Marilyn Crispell Ocelot with Cat Toren and Colin Hinton, and Switches with Tropos (Phillip Golub, Ledah Finck, Aaron Edgcomb). He has performed with Anna Webber, Lesley Mok, and Mali Obomsawin at venues such as Roulette, The Jazz Gallery, and National Sawdust, with recordings on Pi, American Dreams, and NotTwo.
